Collection collections are incredible useful repositories of physical specimens that enable biosecurity and biodiversity research, and can be exploited for their commercial bioactive potential. However, culture collections are also a treasure trove of data, that data consists of primary collection and isolation event data such as who collected the sample where and when, and the ‘extended specimen’ dataset of photos, DNA sequences, chemical properties, and plant pathogen host range assays.

This presentation will explore the ways that this data is connected though federated data networks, such as GBIF, and using standards such as the ‘darwin core’ format. And ultimately how researchers can access, use, and cite this culture collection data.
