Akeem O Taiwo
I am a PhD candidate at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), based at the Cradle Coast Campus in Burnie. I am an agronomist with over ten years of experience in Nigeria, where I contributed to sustainable crop production across both public and private sectors. My work focused on developing innovative farming practices and efficient irrigation systems to improve agricultural productivity in collaboration with local farmers. My PhD research focuses on understanding and preventing Botrytis bunch rot in wine grapes, a disease caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea. The aim of my research is to prevent disease at harvest by targeting and reducing the establishment of latent infections earlier in the season. This is being explored through the application of a novel spray-on technology called BioClay™.
