Ayesha Senanayake
Ayesha Senanayake is a PhD student at the Centre for Crop Health (CCH) at the University of Southern Queensland. She completed her Master of Science in Agricultural Science in 2023 from the same university and joined as a PhD student in January 2024. She has completed her bachelor’s degree in agriculture at the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka and immigrated to Australia. Currently, she is working on fungicide resistance in mungbean powdery mildew pathogens. As a part of her PhD project, she is developing molecular assays to quantify DNA markers associated with resistance to Azoxystrobin and Tebuconazole fungicides. She is also interested in genomes and transcriptomes of mungbean powdery mildew pathogens to investigate fungicide resistance deeply. Additionally, she contributes to other ongoing research projects at CCH to broaden her knowledge of various plant pathogens. Her primary goal is to become a plant pathologist and find solutions to emerging plant health issues. She also enjoys silence, nature, music and gardening.
