Hayley J Ridgway
Prof. Hayley Ridgway is a Science Group Leader at Plant & Food Research and an adjunct Professor at Lincoln University in New Zealand. She leads the Plant Protection Systems Group of 25 scientists. Her areas of specialty is the plant microbiome and she has had a focus on its relationship with grapevines and in the biology of native plants. During her career she has published more than 160 research papers. She is recognised for work describing key causal agents of GTD and factors that influence their pathogenicity and epidemiology. She has also pioneered work understanding the role of microorganisms in the biology of New Zealand native plants, such as mÄnuka and horopito, uncovering linkages between microbes and growth, essential oil production and bioactive compounds in high value honey. In recent years she has sought to understand and harness the functional benefits of the plant microbiome to horticulture.
