Levente Kiss

Levente (Levy) Kiss is a Professor of Plant Pathology and the Director of the Centre for Crop Health (CCH) at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ). Since 2022, he has also been a member of the College of Experts of the Australian Research Council (ARC) and an External Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. As a plant pathologist, Levy has been working mostly on obligate biotrophic plant pathogens, especially powdery mildews, rusts, and oomycetes; mycoparasitism; culturable plant pathogens, such as those causing grapevine trunk diseases; fungicide resistance; and weed biocontrol. In these broad fields, Levy has been leading research projects for industry, government, and academia to provide robust and timely solutions for plant industries. Before moving to Australia in 2017, Levy was the Director of the Plant Protection Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Budapest, Hungary), from 2012 to 2016. He worked in that institute altogether for 25 years. During that period, Levy has also conducted research in Canada (McGill University); France (Rhone Poulenc Agro; University of Paris-Sud; and INRA); UK (University of Kent; and CABI); and the USA (USDA; and University of Wisconsin-Madison), with the support of Fulbright, European Union, and OECD Fellowships.
